ZEP releases Market Economics Report for CCS

2012-08-03 09:08 by Anja Reitz

The report makes short, medium and long term recommendations to EU policy makers for economic support measures necessary to implement CCS, additional to the existing Emissions Trading System (ETS).

The report is written against the background of an insufficiently high ETS price, and argues that while the ETS must remain the backbone of an overall incentive scheme, additional temporary and complementary support measures are required. It investigates both EU-wide and national measures, and while the preference is for regional measures for the EU as a whole, it sees national measures as potentially necessary.

ZEP is a unique coalition of stakeholders from industry, academia, and NGOs working together to achieve commercial deployment of CCS. It serves as an advisor to the European Commission on research, demonstration and deployment of CCS. Bellona’s founder Frederic Hauge has been a member of the ZEP advisory council since its start in 2005.
